In 1971, Al Unser Sr. won
the Indianapolis 500, first-class postage was raised to 8 cents, and
Savino Tarantini, age 14, entered the construction business, broom in
hand, on one of his father's job sites. Savino's father, a respected
general contractor, understood the value of teaching the construction
business to his children the proper way-from the bottom up. But unlike
many teenagers who view hard work as some sort of punishment, Savino
Tarantini viewed it as an opportunity. While continuing to expand his
on-site responsibilities within his father's company, Savino took vocational
courses and soon qualified for his electrician's license. Working as
an electrical subcontractor, Savino acquired a broader perspective of
the home building process. In
1982, Savino decided the time had come to form his own home building
company, and Tarantini Development & Electric, Inc. was established.
